Nazar, or nazar boncugu, or nazar boncuk, or evil eye stone is seen throughout
the country of Turkey. They are sold in bazaars, street stalls, jewelry shops,
and tourist shops.
Turks where them pinned to their clothes, hang them
on their walls, in their cars, and as jewelry. If the nazar cracks or becomes
lost, it means that it has protected the owner against the evil eye, and another
nazar is quickly bought.
The Nazar Boncuk (said like bon-jook) is basically
a good luck charm. The blue glass eyes are said to protect against bad spells,
curses, or bad luck sent out by others.
